About the Work
Xtoles, a song from the Mayan culture, is thought to be one of the oldest known melodies still alive. The most widespread version of its origin says that it is a Mayan warrior dance song to the Sun God, while others relate it to a lullaby and still others to a song to set the scene for parties and dances. Whatever its origin, its stupendous rhythm that invites anyone who listens to it to enjoy is undeniable. As the lyrics say: “Come on guys, the sun is going down”.
It is recommended to pay special attention to the symmetry of the rhythmic section of the work, both in the vocal section and in the body percussion. It is recommended to play with a bright and marked vocal sound in the more rhythmic sections.

Se piensa que Xtoles, canción de la cultura maya, es una de las más antiguas melodías conocidas aún vivas. La versión más difundida sobre su origen dice que es un canto de danza guerrera maya al Dios Sol, mientras que otros lo relacionan con una canción de cuna y otros más con un canto para ambientar fiestas y bailes. Cualquiera que sea su origen es innegable su estupendo ritmo que invita a disfrutar a quien la escuche. Como bien dice la letra: “Vamos muchachos que ya se va ocultando el sol”.
