About the Work
It is a work that seeks to reflect the continuous movement of the water of the Rio Grande across the border between the United States and Mexico but, despite being a border between nations, one half of the river is no different from the other half, the stars They reflect equally on one side and the other. This work tries to reflect the positive aspects within the bilateral relationship between both countries.
For this reason, a jazzy harmonic process is used together with Mexican rhythms, and through music we feel part of the same river. In the words of the writer Mirtha Pérez: “When you look at a landscape it is like looking at the soul of the earth, looking at a river is like looking at the essence of that land, because the river is also in motion, in constant change, and looking is inevitable to follow that movement that seems to take you elsewhere, the spirit goes with the river to reach another land, another space, another world”. This work was commissioned by La Crosse Chamber Chorale and its conductor Dr. Chris Hathaway.
This work is recommended for choirs that seek to experience complicated rhythms but with jazz harmony, the color varies depending on each section of the work; It is also recommended to emphasize the pronunciation of Spanish.
Acerca de la Obra
Es una obra que busca reflejar el continuo movimiento del agua del Río Bravo a través de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México pero, a pesar de ser un límite entre naciones, una mitad del río no es diferente a la otra mitad, las estrellas se reflejan de igual manera de un lado y del otro. Esta obra trata de reflejar los aspectos positivos dentro de la relación bilateral entre ambos países.
Por ello se utiliza un proceso armónico jazzístico junto con ritmos mexicanos, y que a través de la música nos sintamos parte de un mismo río. En palabras de la escritora Mirtha Pérez: “Cuando miras un paisaje es como mirar el alma de la tierra, mirar un río es como mirar la esencia de esa tierra, porque además el río está en movimiento, en constante cambio, y al mirar es inevitable seguir ese movimiento que parece llevarte a otro lado, el espíritu se va con el río a alcanzar otra tierra, otro espacio, otro mundo”. Esta obra fue comisionada por La Crosse Chamber Chorale y su director Dr. Chris Hathaway.
Se recomienda esta obra para coros que busquen experimentar ritmos complicados pero con armonía jazz, el color va variando dependiendo de cada sección de la obra; igualmente se recomienda hacer énfasis en la pronunciación del español.
