About the Work
Los Caracolitos is a children’s poem by the writer María Antonia Jimenez Estrada, which is dedicated to the children who live in the Zapatista’s caracoles, territories that are sites of autonomy and resistance of the indigenous peoples of the state of Chiapas, and serve as points of meeting between the cultures of the Zapatista peoples and the other cultures of Mexico and the world. The name of these territories reflects the slow but firm gait of the snails, who walk to protect their homes, get food and seek freedom. At the time of writing this poem, there were only five snails in the Mexican territory, but the number of these territories continues to increase over the years.
Being of greater difficulty, this work is recommended for experienced children’s choirs, who have greater polyphonic and vocal control, taking care of body percussion.

Los Caracolitos es un poema infantil de la escritora María Antonia Jimenez Estrada, el cual está dedicado a la niñez que habita en los caracoles zapatistas, territorios que son sitios de autonomía y resistencia de los pueblos indígenas del estado de Chiapas, y sirven como puntos de encuentro entre las culturas de los pueblos zapatistas y las otras culturas de México y del mundo. El nombre de estos territorios refleja el andar parsimonioso pero firme de los caracoles, quienes caminan para proteger su casa, conseguir alimento y buscar la libertad. Al momento de escribirse este poema existían solo cinco caracoles en el territorio mexicano, pero sigue incrementando la cantidad de estos territorios con el pasar de los años.
Esta obra al ser de una dificultad mayor, se recomienda para coros infantiles con experiencia, que tengan mayor control polifónico y vocal, cuidar la percusión corporal.
